Book Review

The Fallback Plan is the kind of cozy romcom that feels straight out of a Hallmark movie — complete with small-town charm, witty banter, and just the right amount of heart. The town itself almost feels like a character, full of life, laughter, and lovable locals who make every chapter feel like coming home. Much of the story unfolds in the town’s favorite hangout spot — the local bar — where friendships are tested, secrets are shared, and sparks quietly start to fly. There’s even a light mystery woven in, centered around a quirky crime that turns out to be one big, hilarious misunderstanding. At the heart of it all is the slow-burn romance between two characters you can’t help but root for. Their chemistry builds naturally and beautifully, and I especially loved the female lead’s journey to prove herself to her old classmates — it’s empowering, funny, and so relatable.

Can’t Help Falling is an absolutely adorable romcom that completely stole my heart. I fell in love with Emmy and Owen from the very first chapter — their chemistry, banter, and slow-burn connection make this story impossible to put down. Honestly, I enjoyed this second book even more than the first. There’s something so refreshing about watching two total opposites find common ground and fall for each other in their own imperfect, beautiful way. Emmy’s warmth and Owen’s practicality balance each other perfectly, showing that real-world love can be just as magical as any fairytale. Sweet, funny, and full of heart, Can’t Help Falling is a must-read for any romcom lover looking for a feel-good story that lingers long after the last page.

I enjoyed parts of this book, but I didn’t connect with it quite as much as the other two in the series. It had its fun moments, but it didn’t make me laugh or swoon the way the others did. I’m usually a big fan of the fake dating trope, but this time it just didn’t hit the same for me. The main character wasn’t bad, but he didn’t quite capture my heart the way I hoped he would. There were moments when I found myself losing interest, even though the overall plot was interesting and well-thought-out. Overall, I liked the concept and appreciated the story’s potential, but it just didn’t live up to my expectations. Still, it’s worth a read if you’re a big fan of the fake dating trope!

I really enjoyed how this book tied in familiar businesses from the earlier stories — like Tequila and Mockingbird — which gave it such a fun sense of continuity. It’s always nice when a series connects its world so seamlessly! I found myself connecting more with the main character in this one compared to the Fawbat clan, though I have to admit, the main female lead wasn’t my favorite — probably my least favorite across the series so far. That said, the Friends to Lovers trope totally won me over. Watching two best friends slowly realize they’re meant to be more was so sweet and heartwarming. The auction date twist was a fun addition, and while some of the cute moments didn’t hit quite as hard for me, I absolutely adored Trip. He was such a fantastic male lead and easily one of the highlights of the book.

This book was hands-down my favorite of the entire series! I absolutely loved how the author included quotes from different people at the start of each chapter — it added such a thoughtful and unique touch that made every section feel special. The main couple completely stole my heart, and I adored all the side characters just as much. Honestly, I didn’t want this story to end. The female protagonist’s journey — from meeting her favorite author to unexpectedly falling in love with him — felt like a total dream come true. Her passion for books made her character so relatable and real, especially for fellow book lovers. The French novel inspiration woven throughout the story was absolutely brilliant, adding a layer of charm and elegance to the romance. Heartwarming, captivating, and beautifully written, this love story is an unforgettable gem that will stay with me long after the final page.

Overall, I absolutely loved this series! Each book works well as a standalone, and every story holds its own special charm. These sweet, lighthearted romances are easy and fun to read, filled with heartfelt moments and lovable characters. With no spice, they feel like the perfect palate cleanser—cozy and comforting, much like a good Hallmark movie.
