Accidentally Amy by Lynn Painter follows Izzy, a woman who is running late for work and makes the questionable decision to steal someone else’s coffee order. Technically, it’s her exact order—the only problem is that the name on the cup is Amy.
While leaving the coffee shop, Izzy spills her stolen drink on a handsome stranger, and after their cute interaction, he leaves thinking her name is Amy. No big deal, right? Except Izzy soon discovers that the handsome stranger is Blake, her boss.
And that is where the fun begins.
I absolutely loved this book! Izzy and Blake’s relationship goes from strangers to friends, briefly to enemies, back to friends, and eventually to lovers. Their banter is easily one of my favorite parts of the story. Between their text messages, FaceTimes, inside jokes, and random conversations, their friendship feels just as important as their romance.
Of course, there is one major problem: Blake is Izzy’s boss.
They know getting together would be complicated, so they decide that friendship is the safest option. They even create rules about spending time alone together and try to establish boundaries. Naturally, none of this stops them from falling harder for each other. Every time they hang out, you can feel them getting closer.
There are so many adorable moments throughout the book. I loved Blake getting on the Skyfari at the zoo for Izzy even though he is terrified of heights and Izzy helping him through it. I loved when she took care of his cats and the two communicated through FaceTime and text messages. Even something as simple as Blake picking Izzy up after her car broke down becomes important to their relationship.
Their romance is filled with those little moments that make you realize these two aren’t just friends no matter how many times they try to convince themselves otherwise.
I also loved that Blake genuinely adores all of Izzy’s quirks. Izzy is unapologetically herself, and instead of simply tolerating the unusual little things about her, Blake notices them and loves them. He pays attention to her, and that made their relationship even sweeter. Blake basically admits that he has been gone for this woman since she spilled coffee on him, giving the book a little bit of that love-at-first-sight feeling.
The side characters were another highlight. Josh was such a fun addition, and I really enjoyed Blake’s brothers, Jason and AJ, along with the rest of their friends and family. They helped make Izzy and Blake’s world feel bigger than just their romance.
There is a conflict toward the end, but I hesitate to even call it a third-act breakup because it lasts for such a short amount of time.
During a merger at work, Blake unknowingly plays a role in Izzy losing her job. He doesn’t realize what has happened until his boss points out that Izzy is already going to be fired, so their relationship technically won’t be an issue anymore. Blake is then told he cannot warn Izzy before she receives the official news.
This creates a huge ethical dilemma for Blake because doing the “right” thing professionally has always been important to him. Eventually, though, he realizes that Izzy matters more to him than protecting his job. Their separation lasts less than a day before everything starts getting resolved, so I didn’t find the conflict frustrating. If anything, I appreciated that the book didn’t drag out an unnecessary breakup for several chapters.
Accidentally Amy was such a cute romance. Izzy and Blake have great chemistry, hilarious banter, a genuine friendship, and so many sweet moments that made it easy to root for them.

Lynn Painter did such a good job making me love both of these characters individually and as a couple. Izzy is quirky and completely unashamed of who she is, while Blake is the kind of love interest who notices all those little quirks and falls in love with her because of them. It all started with a stolen coffee, a fake name, and one accidental spill. Amy may not be real, but Izzy and Blake’s chemistry definitely is. Accidentally Amy is a sweet, funny, feel-good romance that I would absolutely recommend when you’re in the mood for something cute, romantic, and full of banter.
