Book Review
Hot for Slayer follows Ethel, a vampire, and Lazio, a vampire hunter, who have been playing cat and mouse for years—until they suddenly find themselves stuck together. What starts as a rivalry quickly turns into an irresistible enemies-to-lovers romance. I absolutely loved everything about this story—the writing style, the characters, and the plot were all fantastic. The romance was top-tier, and Lazio made for an unforgettable main character. Their love story transcended death itself, and it was beautiful to watch it unfold.
Falling follows Cat and Brigan as their one-night stand unexpectedly turns into a romance that feels destined—like soulmates finding each other. This story was absolutely amazing! The writing style was beautiful, and the balance of romance and spice was perfect. I fell in love with both characters and honestly could read an entire full-length novel about them.
Spicy Little Curses is a supernatural romance short story that follows Petra, a journalist investigating an eerie urban legend in New Orleans—a mysterious tattooed man whose ink seems to move on its own. The story is fast-paced and irresistibly engaging, blending romance, intrigue, and a hint of danger. Petra’s curiosity pulls readers into a world where passion and the paranormal collide, keeping you on edge until the very end. With its mix of suspense, “spice,” and Southern Gothic charm, this story makes for a perfect fall read—especially around Halloween.
Space Vampire follows Dana and Vlad as they try to escape the space station they’re trapped on. This story was an absolute delight—cute, creative, and surprisingly heartfelt. The writing style was excellent, and I really enjoyed following the adventures of these two characters. The storyline flowed beautifully from start to finish, making it an engaging and enjoyable read.
Beautiful Nightmares follows Gemma, a sleep paralysis demon who begins to care for her human charge—something she’s absolutely not supposed to do. The premise is creative and the writing style is excellent, but the story itself fell a bit flat for me. I didn’t feel there was enough plot to keep me fully engaged, and while the concept had potential, it just wasn’t my favorite read.
My Boyfriends Are All Monsters is a supernatural romance short story that follows Lucy Sawyer, who finds herself stranded on the side of a mountain and makes a desperate wish for a Hallmark-style romance. Her wish is unexpectedly granted by a supernatural being, and she soon discovers that getting what you wish for isn’t always as perfect as it seems. While the premise had potential, this story just didn’t work for me. I struggled to connect with the plot or the romance, and the overall tone felt a bit strange and disjointed. It’s a unique concept, but ultimately not my favorite read.
Overall, I thought The Scared Sexy series was a fun and captivating collection with something for every type of reader. Each short story offers a unique taste of the featured author’s writing style, making it a great way to discover new favorites. These bite-sized paranormal romances are perfect for a quick, steamy read—especially during spooky season—and I would definitely recommend the series to others.
