Hot For A Slayer by Ali Hazelwood

In Hot for Slayer by Ali Hazelwood, Ethel—a centuries-old vampire—has spent years locked in a deadly game of cat and mouse with Lazlo, the relentless vampire hunter sworn to destroy her. Their rivalry is legendary, built on tension, sharp banter, and near-fatal encounters. But everything changes when Lazlo loses his memory.
Suddenly, Ethel isn’t facing her greatest enemy—she’s responsible for helping him piece together who he is. Stripped of his hatred and history, Lazlo becomes someone entirely different, forcing them into close quarters and an unexpected alliance. What begins as reluctant cooperation quickly ignites into undeniable chemistry.
As centuries of animosity give way to vulnerability, passion replaces rivalry in the most delicious way. Their enemies-to-lovers dynamic is electric, but what truly elevates the story is how their connection endures—even through memory loss and death itself. Lazlo remains fiercely compelling, and watching his love for Ethel shine through despite everything was both swoony and surprisingly emotional. I absolutely loved this story. The writing felt sharp and engaging, the characters were dynamic, and the romance was top-tier. Lazlo made for an unforgettable main character, and their love story felt epic, dramatic, and beautifully earned. Sweet, spicy, and full of bite—this one was easily a standout.

Falling by Christina Lauren

In Falling by Christina Lauren, Cat has no idea that her life is about to collide with something ancient and dangerous. When she meets Brigan—an immortal with a seductive presence and supernatural powers of persuasion—sparks ignite instantly. For centuries, no one has resisted him. Until her. Their intense connection leads to a one-night encounter neither of them expects to mean anything more. But what should have been fleeting quickly feels inevitable—like fate pulling them together. As Cat and Brigan grow closer, they discover their bond may hold the power to break the curse that has bound him for ages… or unravel both of their worlds entirely. This story was absolutely incredible. The writing style felt lush and immersive, and the balance of romance and heat was perfectly executed. I fell completely in love with both Cat and Brigan—their chemistry was undeniable, but it was the emotional depth beneath it that truly made the story shine. Their love felt epic, destined, and powerful in a way that made me wish this had been a full-length novel. I would happily spend hundreds more pages in their world.

Spicy Little Curses by J. T. Geissinger

In Spicy Little Curses by J. T. Geissinger, investigative journalist Petra travels to New Orleans chasing an unsettling urban legend—rumors of a mysterious tattooed man whose ink seems to shift and move beneath his skin. What begins as a simple story quickly becomes something far more personal when she meets Dax, the enigmatic tattoo artist at the center of it all. Dax isn’t just intriguing—he’s dangerous. Bound by a deadly family curse woven into the very ink that marks his body, his world is steeped in secrets and shadows. As Petra digs deeper, skepticism gives way to fascination, and fascination ignites into undeniable chemistry. The closer she gets to uncovering the truth, the more she risks being pulled into the darkness herself. This supernatural romance short story is fast-paced and completely captivating. It effortlessly blends suspense, intrigue, and just the right amount of heat, creating a tension-filled atmosphere that keeps you hooked. Petra’s curiosity drives the plot forward, while Dax’s cursed existence adds a layer of gothic intensity that feels perfect for the setting. With its mix of passion, paranormal elements, and Southern Gothic charm, Spicy Little Curses makes an ideal fall read—especially around Halloween. It’s sultry, suspenseful, and just eerie enough to keep you on edge until the very last page.

Space Vampire by Ruby Dixon

In Space Vampire by Ruby Dixon, stranded human Dana finds herself trapped on an abandoned space station with only one ally: Vlad, a powerful vampire clone with a dark past and a reputation that precedes him. Both are captives, both desperate to escape—and neither expects the spark that ignites between them.
As they navigate the dangers of their confinement and plan their escape, survival forces them into close quarters. What begins as reluctant teamwork quickly shifts into undeniable chemistry. The tension between them deepens with every shared risk, turning into a passionate bond that feels surprisingly real. In a place built on control and experimentation, Dana and Vlad discover connection, trust, and something far more powerful than either anticipated.
This story was an absolute delight—cute, creative, and unexpectedly heartfelt. The sci-fi setting added a fresh twist to paranormal romance, and the storyline flowed effortlessly from start to finish. I loved following Dana and Vlad’s journey, watching their relationship evolve from necessity to genuine devotion. It was steamy, adventurous, and full of heart—an engaging read that proves even on a deserted space station, love can thrive.

Beautiful Nightmare by Katee Robert

In Beautiful Nightmare by Katee Robert, Gemma is a rookie sleep paralysis demon determined to prove she belongs. Her first haunting assignment should be straightforward: terrify her human target, feed on his fear, and move on.
But Caleb isn’t afraid. Instead of recoiling in horror, he’s drawn to her. What begins as a routine mission quickly spirals into something far more intimate when their charged encounters ignite undeniable chemistry. As Gemma starts developing real feelings for the very human she’s supposed to haunt, she risks breaking the rules that define her existence. Caring for him isn’t just forbidden—it challenges her identity as a demon. The premise is undeniably creative, and the writing style is polished and engaging. I loved the originality of a sleep paralysis demon forming an emotional attachment to her human charge. However, while the concept had strong potential, the story itself fell a bit flat for me. I found myself wanting more plot development and deeper stakes to fully immerse me in the world. Though it wasn’t my favorite in the collection, it’s still an imaginative paranormal romance with a unique twist and a bold, intriguing setup.

My Boyfriends Are All Monsters by Kimberly Lemming

In My Boyfriends Are All Monsters by Kimberly Lemming, Lucy Sawyer finds herself stranded on the side of a mountain with nothing but frustration—and a desperate wish for a Hallmark-style true love story. When a supernatural being grants her request, Lucy is transported to an enchanted town where every alluring, otherworldly man seems determined to win her heart.
At first, it feels like a dream come true: romance, magic, and irresistible supernatural suitors at every turn. But Lucy quickly realizes that magic always demands something in return, and getting exactly what you wish for isn’t always as perfect as it sounds.
This witty and sizzling short story, part of the Scared Sexy paranormal romance collection, offers a playful and imaginative premise. However, while the concept had plenty of potential, it ultimately didn’t work for me. I struggled to fully connect with the plot and the romantic dynamics, and the overall tone felt a bit disjointed at times.
It’s certainly a unique and bold idea, blending humor with supernatural romance, but in the end, it wasn’t my favorite of the collection.

Series Review

Overall, I thought The Scared Sexy series was a fun and captivating collection with something for every type of reader. Each short story offers a unique taste of the featured author’s writing style, making it a great way to discover new favorites. These bite-sized paranormal romances are perfect for a quick, steamy read—especially during spooky season—and I would definitely recommend the series to others.

Bookish Breakdown

My favorite story in the series was Hot for Slayer by Ali Hazelwood. It struck the perfect balance between romance, spice, and genuinely engaging characters. The chemistry felt effortless, the tension was delicious, and the emotional beats landed in a way that made the story feel complete—even in a shorter format. If I have one complaint, it’s that I wanted more pages. I would have happily stayed longer in this world, digging deeper into the characters and their dynamic. Lazlo Enyedi completely stole the show for me. Even after losing his memories, the way his love for Ethel still came through was incredibly touching. There’s something so powerful about love that persists despite confusion and loss—it made their connection feel deeper and more fated. He was easily my favorite love interest in the entire collection, and I’d read a full-length novel about him in a heartbeat. The Scared Sexy series as a whole features an impressive lineup of authors, including Christina Lauren, J. T. Geissinger, Ruby Dixon, Katee Robert, and Kimberly Lemming. Each author brings a distinct voice and twist to paranormal romance, making the collection feel diverse, playful, and endlessly entertaining. The settings also add to the fun—spanning everything from big cities to cozy small towns and even outer space. Every story feels like stepping into a new corner of the paranormal world, keeping the anthology fresh and exciting from start to finish. Overall, Hot for Slayer stood out for its heart, heat, and unforgettable hero—and it’s the one I’ll be thinking about long after closing the book.
