Bluebird Gold follows Isla as she navigates the aftermath of her father’s death and the cryptic clues he leaves behind in a small Montana town. From the very first chapter, I was hooked. This book combines romance and mystery so seamlessly that it reminded me why romantic suspense is quickly becoming one of my favorite genres.
One of my favorite aspects of the novel was the single-dad romance. Isla is the teacher of Spencer, the sheriff’s son, and through that connection she develops a relationship with Spencer’s father, Cosi Raynes. I absolutely adored watching their relationship grow. Not only does Isla fall for Cosi, but she also forms a beautiful bond with Spencer. Their growing connection felt authentic, heartfelt, and gave the story so much emotional depth.
The small-town setting was another highlight. The town captures both sides of small-town life—the gossip, judgment, and suspicion toward outsiders, but also the warmth, compassion, and sense of community that can make these places feel like home. The Montana setting was described so beautifully that it made me want to pack my bags and visit immediately.
The mystery element kept me turning pages late into the night. After receiving clues suggesting her father’s death may not have been an accident, Isla begins piecing together a puzzle left behind through notes and cryptic messages. I spent the entire book trying to figure out who was responsible, and when the truth was finally revealed, I was genuinely shocked. The culprit was someone I never expected.
What impressed me most was how well the author balanced the romance and suspense. Neither storyline overshadowed the other. Instead, they blended together naturally, creating a story that felt complete rather than two separate plots competing for attention.
I also loved Cosi’s protective nature and appreciated that there wasn’t a dramatic third-act breakup. Instead, the conflict felt realistic and was resolved without unnecessary drama. Watching Spencer gradually come to love Isla and seeing their little family take shape was incredibly heartwarming.
While there are a few spicy scenes throughout the novel, they felt purposeful and fit naturally within the story rather than being included solely for shock value.
I also appreciated the closure surrounding Troy and Isla’s relationship. It was satisfying to see her finally remove him from her life and step into the future she deserved. And that epilogue? Absolutely perfect. It provided exactly the kind of ending readers hope for after investing so much in the characters.
Overall, I absolutely loved Bluebird Gold. My only complaint is that I wanted more—I could easily read an entire series about these characters. If you enjoy romantic suspense, single-dad romances, small-town settings, or are looking for a great introduction to the romantic suspense genre, I highly recommend picking this one up.
I think the perfect meal to pair with Bluebird Gold would be a hearty bowl of beef stew served with warm sourdough bread, a mug of hot apple cider, and campfire s’mores for dessert. The meal perfectly captures the cozy small-town Montana atmosphere that fills the pages of this novel. The rich, comforting stew feels like something you’d enjoy after a cold day spent searching for clues, while the hot apple cider and gooey s’mores bring all the warmth and charm of the book’s romance. This pairing feels like sitting by a crackling fire in a lakeside cabin, making it the ideal meal to enjoy while getting lost in Isla and Cosi’s story.
I would absolutely follow the clues all the way to the end. Partly because I’m naturally curious, but also because I would want to know why they were left behind in the first place. If someone took the time to create a trail of clues, I would feel like there was an important reason for it. Even if I was nervous about what I might uncover, I don’t think I could walk away without knowing the truth. I’d hate for the clues to go to waste and spend the rest of my life wondering what I might have missed by not following them.
