The The New Edition Way Tour made its stop at the Toyota Center on April 4th—and let me just say, it was a time. My dad, aunt, and I all went together, and we had an absolute blast.
Now… the real dilemma of the night? Getting there. Traffic was insane, and we ended up having to park in a different lot for $34.69. Let’s just say, Dad was not thrilled. But despite the chaos, we made it just in time for the start of the concert (even though we did miss the DJ set).
Honestly, missing the DJ had one major perk—no merch lines. We were able to walk right up and grab a New Edition shirt and some Boyz II Men pins with no wait at all, which felt like a win.
Our seats were in section 115, and they were perfect. We had an amazing view of the stage, close enough to really feel the energy but still able to take in the full performance.
And one thing we did right? Eating before we came. The food prices inside were definitely on the expensive side, so we were glad we planned ahead and skipped that part.
There wasn’t a clear outfit theme that I could find on social media, but one thing was for sure—there was a lot of sparkle in the building. From sequins to glittery fits, everyone came ready to shine.
There weren’t as many props used during the show, but honestly—they weren’t needed. The performances alone carried the entire concert. That being said, there were still some standout moments.
Toni Braxton had one of the most memorable visuals when she came out with angel wings and even flew in the air during a performance—it was such a beautiful and dramatic moment.
One of the coolest production elements was the use of original music videos playing on the screen in the background during songs like “If It Isn’t Love” and “Can You Stand the Rain” by New Edition. It added a nostalgic touch that really connected the past to the present.
Another standout moment was when Toni Braxton brought out a violinist during “Un-Break My Heart.” The violin player was incredible—she absolutely played the heck out of that violin and completely shined during her solo, adding such an emotional and powerful layer to the performance.
And to top it all off, they were even throwing roses into the crowd, which added such a fun and interactive touch and made the night feel even more special for fans.
The concert setup was really well done. Instead of each artist performing a full set one after the other, they rotated throughout the night, performing their hit songs back-to-back. It kept the energy high the entire time and made the show feel nonstop.
The way all the artists came out together at the beginning, singing as one, was such a surreal moment and an incredible way to kick off the show. It immediately set the tone for the night and had the entire crowd excited from the very start.
New Edition had the crowd going with classics like “If It Isn’t Love” and “Mr. Telephone Man.” Boyz II Men slowed things down with favorites like “I’ll Make Love to You” and “End of the Road,” bringing all the nostalgia. Then Toni Braxton delivered with “Un-Break My Heart” and “Please,” showcasing those iconic vocals.
And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, Bobby Brown hit the stage with “Every Little Step” and “My Prerogative,” taking the energy all the way up.
The vibe of the concert was absolutely amazing! New Edition and Bobby Brown were dancing their butts off the entire time and never once seemed out of breath—the energy was unreal.
Toni Braxton, on the other hand, powered through the show like a true professional. She had actually broken her arm in Atlanta and performed the entire night in a cast. And I have to say—her cast matched every single outfit she changed into, which was iconic. She was such a trooper, still dancing and singing flawlessly like nothing could stop her. She even brought out her sister, Towanda Braxton, which was such a special moment.
But one of the biggest surprises of the night came when Boyz II Men brought out their fourth member, Michael McCary. It was such a shocking and emotional moment—the entire Toyota Center was cheering nonstop.
Throughout the night, all of the artists took time to thank the fans and talk about how much they meant to each other. You could really feel the love, respect, and history between them, which made the concert even more special. They also shared how important this tour was to them, and it showed in every performance.
Side note—Shawn Stockman actually has a really cool podcast called On That Note, where he features celebrities and talks about fun music moments, so definitely check that out.
Overall, the concert was amazing—I would 10/10 see them again. If you love old-school R&B, this is a tour you absolutely don’t want to miss. Next time they come around, go see them… you won’t regret it.
