The Ex-Wives Club by Sally Hepworth follows the mysterious death of restaurant owner Ian Curley and the investigation into what really happened to him. The story alternates between the detectives investigating his death and the events leading up to the crime. At the center of it all are Ian’s three ex-wives, who have formed an unlikely friendship and meet regularly at his restaurant for their own little “ex-wives club.”

I really enjoyed this book! Since it is a shorter story, it definitely left me wanting more, but I thought Sally Hepworth did a great job creating a fast-paced mystery in such a limited number of pages. The story moved quickly, and I loved watching all the pieces slowly fall into place.

Spoiler alert! I was honestly shocked when everything was finally revealed. Ian was a truly horrible man, and it turns out that nearly everyone was somehow involved in his death. The person who ultimately killed him was the father of the young girl Ian had killed in a hit-and-run. However, Ian’s ex-wives and even members of the restaurant staff helped make the murder possible and ensured everyone had an alibi so that no one would get caught.

I really liked the ending and how everything came together almost like a butterfly effect, with each person’s actions helping the plan fall perfectly into place. And honestly? I wasn’t mad that they got away with it, considering how terrible Ian was!

Overall, I really enjoyed this story. The mystery kept me interested, the final reveal surprised me, and I loved seeing how everything connected in the end. I would definitely read more from Sally Hepworth. She is a great author and really knows how to write an entertaining thriller and mystery!
