Good Neighbors by Chad Sunker was such a good short story! It follows a woman who witnesses a shocking crime through her neighbor’s window while trying to catch her friend’s husband cheating.
I really enjoyed this story because the action starts immediately. From the very beginning, we see the main character debating whether she should spy on her neighbor because she suspects that her friend’s husband is having an affair. She eventually decides to look through the window, but instead of catching him cheating, she witnesses him being murdered by a mysterious man she can’t clearly see.
After accidentally making a noise, she realizes the killer knows she’s there, and suddenly, she’s running for her life. The rest of the story follows her as she desperately tries to escape the killer while also attempting to find her friend and tell her that her husband is dead. Things get even crazier when the police finally find her, only for them to be hit by a car as the killer continues trying to eliminate the only witness to the murder.
Spoiler alert! The biggest plot twist comes when she finally finds her friend and discovers that the wife was in on the murder the entire time! She and her lover—who happens to be another neighbor—planned to kill her husband because she didn’t want him to leave her and the kids with nothing.
Overall, I thought Good Neighbors was really good. From beginning to end, the story was fast-paced, action-packed, and entertaining. For such a short thriller, it managed to keep me interested the entire time and left me wanting more. I would definitely recommend this story, and I would love to read more books by this author!
